In going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation – it’s all about coming home to God’s Love through His Mercy and Forgiveness.
We need to be sorry, we need to have “an amendment of purpose” i.e. we don’t plan on going out and doing that sin again…We do tend to do the same things, but when we go to the sacrament we need to be clear with ourselves that we will try with all our might to “avoid sin, and the occasions that lead to sin.”
Which for us as humans alone is a tall, pretty much impossible order. Our passions tend to get the better of us and the devil is very good at using our greatest strengths as our greatest weaknesses. But with God, all things are possible. And way we feel once we complete our penance is amazing.
Don’t forget to let it go! If you’re sorry and sincerely are going to do all you can to fight against temptation, and did your penance…Then let it go. You’ve given it over. Live in the light of God’s Grace and Love, if he can Forgive you, you need to forgive yourself. You are a new creation when you come out of the sacrament, revel in its joy!
Please don’t let this season go by without going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, it makes a big difference in this season of reflection to tap into God’s infinite Love, Mercy and Forgiveness!
